You take one element of the puzzle – the office where everybody meets at the same time – and everything changes: motivation, engagement, communication, for the experts out there it is still unclear if productivity has boomed these years or it's actually pretty bad.
If you take the office building out of the equation, what do you have?
Well, you have the people:
- The juniors starting their career and eager to socialize
- The young professionals who care about their work-life balance
- The parents who want to be closer to their families instead of spending time commuting
- The senior professionals who can work autonomously without supervision
And the groups vary more and more when you look closer.
We used to think that work is tied to a place (and for those working in factories or serving clients behind a desk still is), but maybe work can be connected, not tied, to various places, not just one.
Different people, different places. We just need to figure it out how to link everything together and make it better than the model before: helping people get the flexibility they want and connect all the elements in a way that drives motivation and engagement in teams, not isolation and #quietquitting.
It´s a puzzle we are building right now, and the image is much clearer than a year ago. The domino effect is long gone now.
